Pediatric Audiology Services
The Audiology Clinic at Texas Hearing Institute diagnoses hearing loss with comprehensive hearing testing that utilizes the latest technology in a pleasant environment. Our pediatric audiologists with doctoral level degrees provide services to children from birth to 21 years old. They have extensive experience working with young and difficult-to-test children.
These services include:
The results of the testing will determine whether there is hearing loss, as well as the type and degree of hearing loss present. If there is hearing loss, it is important to know to what extent learning, communication, and social skills will be affected. Afterward, the pediatric audiologist will recommend a course of treatment that matches the families’ communication goals for their child. This may include the use of hearing aids. In some cases, a cochlear implant or osseointegrated system might be recommended, as well as referrals to other professionals who might help. Some of these include speech language pathologists, medical professionals, and early childhood interventionists.
Our ultimate goal is to help each child gain access to sound so they can learn to listen and speak. However, we also support families who choose other modes of communication.
