Pediatric Hearing Test
We conduct behavioral evaluations to evaluate children’s hearing in both ears. Audiologists use sounds and ask children to respond to them in age-appropriate ways.
Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) is typically for children 6 months to 2 years old. For this hearing test, a child will sit in a parent’s lap, and sounds are played through insert earphones or speakers. When the child turns toward the sounds, audiologists turn on a video screen to reward the child's response.
Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA) is usually for children who are 2-3 years old. Sounds are played through insert earphones or speakers, and when a child hears sounds, they get to play games, like dropping a toy into a bucket or pushing a button to turn on a video screen.
Standard Audiometry is for children 5 years old and older. Sounds are played through insert earphones, and when children hear them, they either say “yes” or raise their hand.
