Are you interested in joining a corps of passionate volunteers dedicated to improving the lives of children with hearing loss? Texas Hearing Institute has many volunteer opportunities for people 18 years of age and older that will help us serve thousands of children each year.

Volunteer opportunities at Texas Hearing Institute include special programs like Project T.A.L.K. and Project L.E.A.D., one-time group projects, weekly administrative assistance, and special events.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our year-round Volunteer Program is an integral part of our Texas Hearing Institute team as every committed volunteer that joins our team offers invaluable assistance and support to each of our providers.

By committing to our Volunteer Program, you will have the opportunity to join our programs and take ownership of a myriad of tasks and projects that are crucial to helping our team provide high-quality medical and educational services to children with hearing loss. You will also have the chance to observe patient appointments within our Audiology and Speech Therapy Services clinics and learn first-hand about the methods used by our team at Texas Hearing Institute and the impact it has on our families.

Volunteer positions include:

  • Audiology Clinic Administrative Assistant
  • Speech Therapy Services Administrative Assistant
  • Melinda Webb School Volunteer(s)
  • Buddies and Junior Buddies Event Helper(s)

Job Descriptions

Audiology Volunteer

Summary: Audiology Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks depending on project deadlines in the Audiology clinic. This will include filing charts and other administrative tasks as assigned by the Audiology Administrative Manager (Nancy Maher). This position helps to extend the resources at Texas Hearing Institute.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Filing charts
  • Making New Patient charts
  • Cleaning toys used during audiology testing
  • Putting together Hearing Loss Prevention (HLP) wheels
  • Filing paperwork into client charts
  • Typing labels, changing labels, changing out broken charts
  • Faxing and making copies of client reports
  • The last week of the month, pull client charts for the Cochlear Implant (CI) team meeting

Requirements:

  • Must present a professional appearance and a friendly manner
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Be courteous and personable when dealing with the public
  • Be self-directed, willing to take initiative and detail-oriented
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of all Texas Hearing Institute patients, volunteers, and partners
  • Computer skills are desired, but not necessary

Training & Supervision

  • Texas Hearing Institute will train volunteers on the following items: filing system, cleaning toys, making charts, administrative duties, and other projects

Time Commitment

  • Once per week for 3 to 4 hours for a period of 4 months
  • Some tasks can be created and tailored for other time commitments

At Texas Hearing Institute in Houston, TX, we provide audiology and speech therapy services for adults and children with hearing loss.

ATTENTION:

ATTENTION: Texas Hearing Institute and the Melinda Webb School will be closed for the rest of the afternoon due to a water outage.

The Audiology and Speech Clinics will be closed for in-person appointments. A new appointment date will be arranged/confirmed through your provider.

Project T.A.L.K. will be dismissed early for immediate parent pickup in our main lobby.
